Individual mental health therapy is a flexible partnership. Clients offer expertise about their needs, goals, and ways of learning. Therapy can be done in a variety of ways. Here are some modalities used at Change:
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR can be done in the traditional 50-minute therapy format or in an “intensive” format with blocks of sessions done over the course of several days, often on the weekend.
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (M-CBT)
Cognitive therapies lend themselves well to the traditional talk therapy format and as much or as little outside “homework” as desired.
Regardless of the modality, good therapy is based upon the guiding principles of a client-centered focus and trauma-informed care.
A note about Coaching
Coaching is not mental health therapy. Coaching works with a focus on the present and the future. Coaching offers: education, practice with self-awareness, skill-building and support experimenting with mindset changes. Group coaching adds the benefits of connection and collaboration with others.
